ReplyDeleteEquality has found out about electricity, he learned about it from the frog experiment. It is little things like that he had not had the knowledge to know about. He believes this power defies all men and it made the needle move on the compass. The men also now know that that's what lightning is, he has witnessed thunderstorms but never knew what lightning is. Equality has learned that metal draws power from the sky.
A couple chapters ago Equality gave the name “The Golden One” to Liberty. He gave it to her based off his first impression which was that she had dark eyes that glowed with no fear. She was also said to have golden hair like the sun when it was shined on. She was also the first women that had caught Equality’s attention.
For the first time Equality is interested in how he looks. They have never seen themselves so they don't know the likeness of them. Equality has said he finally cares about his body after finding out about new things. Him finding out about wire makes him think it is like a glowing vein which causes him to think about his body and get curious as to what he looks like.
They were suddenly able to escape because they realized there were no guards. They were able to break down the door but had also decided they wanted to tell the truth. Also the next day they were meeting to share Equalities discovery.

"Their hair was golden as the sun; their hair flew in the wind, shining and wild, as if it defined men to restrain it"
"Yes we do care. For the first time we do care about our body"
"There is no reason to have guards, for men have never defied the Councils so far as to escape from whatever place they were ordered to be."

ReplyDeleteIII. Why does Equality think that the Council of Scholars is blind?
Equality thinks that the Council of Scholars is blind because they don´t see that Equality's "invention" of light and electricity means anything. They do not know what it is so they think nothing of it.
IV. What name has Equality given to Liberty? Why?
The name that Equality gave Liberty was "The Golden One".I think he chose this name for her because he thinks she is different then the rest of the woman. He finds her very special and golden is a good word to represent that because gold is rare and so is she.
V. What did Equality intend to do with his discovery?
What Equality intended to do was show his invention to the World Council of Scholars. Equality is doing this because he believe that the scholars will take the world out of the darkness and finally let people know what they are missing.
VI. How was he treated in the Palace?
Equality was not treated very well in the Palace. The judges in the beginning would ask him, "Where have you been?" (63) but Equality would not tell a word because he needed to keep his invention safe from being destroyed. After when he wouldn't speak they sent him to the lashing room where two guards lashed him many times until he passed out. Then, he was placed in a cell for 30 more days. The doors would only open two times a day to give him bread and water.
QUOTES:
DeleteIII. "No single one can posses greater wisdom than many Scholars whoa are elected by all men for their wisdom. Yet we can" (54).
VI. "The Golden One" (55). "Speak these words again, they whispered" (56) "Our dearest one," we whispered" (56) This shows how Liberty does feel the same way at Equality as Equality does for Liberty and is a very rare person.
V. "We must not keep our secret to ourselves, not burred under the ground. We must bring it to the sight of the men." (60)

ReplyDeleteChapter three question one.
he has discovered remains from the past in a tunnel in the tunnel there “we have walked through the light of our tunnel”where wires and light bulbs in it he has also discovered electricity and how metal attracts and conducts it he has learned that he has surpassed the scholars and now he realizes that they are wrong.
Chapter four question one
The name equality has given liberty is the golden one because he see her above all others””what is our name” they asked the golden”
Chaptet five question one
Equality inteded to share it with the scholers and hoped that they would share it with the consul of schoolers and there discovery would be used to help there brothers”we must bring it to the sight of man”
Chapter six question two
After equality was put in the detetion center they were betten at first for a long time then after that they where left in there cells where they where questiond evrery day by juges and feed twice a day then they brokeout”we lunged aginst the door and it gave way.”
I agree with you, I also think that Equality's intentions are to help his brothers with his discovery.

ReplyDeleteWhat has Equality discovered and what has he learned from it?
Equality discovered a new power of nature. Equality says that “ We know not what this power is not whence it comes. But we know its nature, we have watched it and worked with it.” He also says that he found the greatest power ever to be found on earth. The new power also causes lightning. The power that Equality did find is called metal he says “ draws the power of the sky.” Equality also builds strange things with metal. He also uses it to make copper wires.
2) What name has Equality given to Liberty? Why?
Equality has given the name the golden one because he loves her and thinks that she is special to him. Liberty also calls Equality something else than his birth name. That name is The Unconquered because he breaks all of the rules of the city because of his new metal discovery.
3) Why now does Equality feel the need to guard his tunnel?
Equality feels like he needs to guard the tunnel because he doesn’t want anyone else to steal his new discovery and show it to the world council before he does. He also wants to guard the tunnel because he doesn’t want anyone to know what he is doing before he shows it to the council. He also doesn’t want to get in trouble for making these discoveries that might change the society's way of living their lives.
4) Why was he able to escape from the Palace, and why was it suddenly necessary to escape?
Equality was able to escape the palace because the doors were old and easy to break the lock off the door. He was also able to escape the Palace because there was no guards in the place because they don’t expect anyone to break the law that much. He wanted to escape because the World Council was meeting and he wanted to show them his new discovery.

ReplyDeleteWhat does Equality discover?
What Equality discover is that they were cutting open the body of dead frog, until they saw the frog moves it leg when the frog is dead. Then Equality began testing why the frog was moving while it was dead. The frog had wire of copper around the frog or on it, and the blade of knife touch the copper which sent a strange power to the frog.
What name has Equality given to Liberty?
The name that Equality has given to Liberty is The Golden One. Equality gave this name to Liberty because they both like each other. But the way that they are thinking is not allowed in their society.
What Equality intends to do with his discovery?
What Equality wanted to with his discovery was to make the purest energy instead of using candles. What this purest energy is a lightbulb.
Why has Equality in the palace of corrective detention?
He was put in the Palace Of the Corrective Detention because he has been caught. He got caught because he forgot to go to the City Theatre. Then he went to the Council and they questioned " Where have you been." Equality refuses to answer the question and was sent to the Palace of The Corrective Detention.

ReplyDelete1. In chapter three, Equality has discovered thunder. He learns that, "It makes the needle move and turn on the compass", "We found that it causes lightening",
2. In chapter four, Equality's name for Liberty is, "The Golden One". I think the name suits her fine because even though she has golden hair, she has a heart of gold. The quotes I found to support my answer is, "The head of The Golden One bowed slowly", "Then they raised their head, an they spoke simply and gently, as if they wished us to forget some anxiety of their own."
3. The World Council of Scholars is a great council that comes to the city once a year. Quotes that prove my answer is, "It is a great council to which the wisest of all lands are elected, and it meets once a year in the different cities of the Earth."
4. Equality was put in the Palace of Corrective Detention because he refused to tell The Council of Home where he has been. Apparently, you cannot refuse to answer The Council of Home where you have been. Quotes that support my answer are, "We will not tell you", "Take our brother Equality 7-2521 to the Palace of Corrective Detention. Lash them until they tell."

ReplyDeleteCh. III, Equality has discovered a new power of nature, Electricity. He discovered it by accident when cutting open a dead frog for some reason. The frog was hanging from a copper wire and he was cutting it with a metal knife when the dead frogs leg twitched because the wire and his knife created an electric spark that made the frogs leg twitch.
Ch. IV, Equality gave Liberty the name “The Golden One” because of her golden hair and because of her glowing eyes.
Ch. V, Equality wants to take his discovery to the council of scholars because he thinks that if he does then they will accept him and he can then make the world better with his invention.
Ch. VI, Equality was put in the palace of corrective detention because he was so busy playing with light that he lost track of time and showed up late to the home of the street sweepers. When they asked him where he was instead of lying he turned his head and refused to answer. They then took him to the Palace of Corrective detention and started beating him senseless. He later made a daring escape and came right back.

DeleteSince I answered all of the basic questions, I have decided to add one from Chapter 5. What is the World Council of Scholars and why is it significant? The world council of scholars is an elected group of officials composed of only the wisest in the world. They meet once per year in different cities around the world, and in this time they will be meeting in our city.
Lucas Kaufman
ReplyDelete1. Why does Equality think that the Council of Scholars is blind?
The society depicted in “Anthem” seems to have only one source of new knowledge- the scholars. According to the scholars, who obviously have no special talents or thirst for knowledge because no one can, the only knowledge that exists is that which is known by all men. When Equality states that the Council of Scholars is blind, he does not literally mean that they are lacking their sense of sight. Equality means that the Council is blinded by the collectivist ideas of society and cannot see the truth, that “the secrets of this earth are not for all men to see, but only for those who seek them.” (52).
2. What name has Liberty given to Equality? Do you think that the name is appropriate? Why or why not?
Since the day he met Liberty, Equality has been calling her the Golden One, for her golden hair, in his thoughts. It was in Part IV that he finally confessed this to her, and she revealed that she, too, had given him a name- The Unconquered. I think this name is very appropriate for Equality because he is the one free thinker in this society, the one person who has not been conquered by the overwhelming push of the society toward the shared goal. Indeed, Equality’s strength does come from this resistance, this inability to conform. And all this led him to discover electricity, “a secret unknown to all our brothers” (52), “a new miracle and a new power.” (53).
P.S.- I promise that those are the last quotes from that same set of pages (pgs. 52 & 53).
3.Why does Equality want, for the first time, to know what he looks like?
Upon Equality’s successful harnessing of electricity (Note: this took him a few years at most while it took people like Thomas Edison and Nikola Tesla much longer), he realizes that he has discovered something huge, something revolutionary, and he knows that he will protect his knowledge with his life. He mentions not caring about his own body, as it is another transgression to care about your own body, and then realizes that he does indeed care. “For this wire is as a part of our body, as a vein torn from us, glowing with our blood.” (60). It is this willingness to sacrifice himself for his discovery that gets Equality curious about his body, as he wants to know what exactly he would sacrifice.
4. Why was he able to escape from the Palace of Corrective Detention, and why was it suddenly necessary to escape?
While recounting the harrowing events of the preceding thirty days, Equality writes about how easy it was to escape from the Palace of Corrective Detention, where he was sent upon being caught. The society’s equivalent of prison has old, rusty locks and doors that are easy to break through and is completely unguarded. After all, “There is no reason to have guards, for men have never defied the Councils so far as to escape from whatever place they were ordered to be.” (67). That is, no one will try to escape and act against the common good except Equality 7-2521. He had originally planned, when he discovered how to use electricity to power things, to take them to the World Council of Scholars, which would meet in his city, for the first and last time in what I can only assume was and will be a very long time. Equality’s motive for escape was that he needed to bring his discovery to his brothers, and this would possibly be his only opportunity to ever do so.

In your third paragraph, I was also surprised that he found electricity in a significantly shorter period of time than Thomas Edison or Nikola Tesla, even though he had a much harder time experimenting and finding the properties of electricity. He had to hide whenever he wanted to work with it, while Thomas Edison and Nikola Tesla had less struggles during their process.

ReplyDeleteCh III ~ What has Equality discovered and what has he learned from it?
Equality has discovered electricity. Equality learns of the power because he touched a knife to a dead frog that had a wire in it and the dead frog's leg moved, therefore there was a force beyond his understanding that was controlling it. You can see Equality’s interest in it in this quote, “We came to know that we had found the greatest power on earth.”(pg 53). Equality will come to learn many new things from his development of electricity and that it can not simply control light, but other forms as well.
Ch IV ~ Why was Equality put in forms center of Corrective Detention?
Equality was placed into the center of corrective detention because he wanted to save his secret of light for the world council of scholars. Equality was whipped and beaten until he could no longer feel the pain. The fact that his society shows no examination in whether this literal torture is moral or corrupt just reveals how toxic this society is.
Ch V ~ Why now does Equality feel the need to guard his tunnel?
Equality has the newfound need to protect his tunnel because he has light and contraband in there and if anyone found it then he would be held before the world council and most likely killed. Overall, Equality is trying to be protective of his tunnel because he understands the risks that he faced before and the current ones that have arisen.
Ch VI ~ How was he treated in the Palace?
Equality was treated very poorly in the Palace of corrections. I wasn't too shocked by that though because of the proof that we have already found to confirm that this society is misleading. There is no freedom of speech in Anthem, Equality isn't even allowed to talk to liberty because he cannot “look upon another woman more than another”. Equality just wanted to keep his discovery secret so he could tell the world council, in fact in this chapter Equality assures himself that he will tell the council about his invention, “We shall put before them the greatest gift offered to men.”(pg67). I don't think that this is a good idea because even though Equality composed this astounding new thing, he still violated laws and may be prosecuted for that.
I just realized I did two questions from Ch VI Whoops
DeleteLucas Kaufman
DeleteI see your reasoning when describing why Equality felt the need to guard his tunnel, but I personally think he was being more protective of his work than himself. He had some pretty life-changing stuff in that tunnel, discoveries he knew would benefit the society as a whole, and he had said before that he would sacrifice his life for his work.

ReplyDeleteCh III.
1. Why does Equality think that the Council of Scholars is blind?
Equality thinks that the Council of Scholars are blind because they don’t see the secrets of the Earth and they think all the things known about Earth are known to all. ““No one can possess greater wisdom than the many Scholars who are elected...Yet we can. We do.” (54). This shows us that Equality thinks that the Scholars do not know anything about his discoveries.
Ch. IV.
1. What name has Equality given to Liberty? Why?
The name Equality has given to Liberty is the “Golden One”. Equality gave Liberty this name because she is said to have blonde hair. Also this was the first women Equality had fallen in love with or even paid attention too. “ We have given you a name in our thoughts, Liberty 5-3000. The Golden One” (55).
Ch. V.
1. Why does Equality want, for the first time, to know what he looks like?
Equality wants to know what he looks like for the first time because he wants to figure more about himself and the world around him. “For it is evil to have concern for their own face or bodies. But tonight, for a reason we cannot fathom, we wish it were possible to us to know the likeness of our own person” (62). Equality knows that it is a crime to know what he looks like, Also he cannot ask brothers or anyone else.
Ch. VI
1. Why was he able to escape from the Palace, and why was it suddenly necessary to escape?
Equality was able to escape from the Palace because the locks are old on the doors and there are no guards about. "There is no reason to have guards, for men have never defied the Councils so far as to escape from whatever place they were ordered to be" (67). It was necessary to escape because the next day, the World Council of Scholars was meeting in his cities, to share Equality's discovery.

Chapter 3: Why does Equality think that the Council of Scholars is blind?
Equality thinks that the Council of Scholars is blind because of their ignorance in not believing in anything new. This is shown when Equality has changed opinions for the Council of Scholars, “The Council of Scholars has said that we all know the things which exist and therefore the things which as not known by all do not exist…The secrets of this earth are not for all men to see, but only for those who will seek them. We know for we have found a secret unknown to all our brothers.” (Pg. 52) He has these changed views on the Council of Scholars for he has created electricity, a new invention/mystery that is unknown in his society, which contradicts the Council’s code of conduct. The Council of Scholars acts similar to the school board of education, a group that all act together and apply rules on the education for everyone. Yet this is slightly different to the Council of Scholars for ultimately all citizens vote for these rules to be passed, and so it is a very democratic process. However, the Council of Scholars act as a single group, and do not listen to any lower groups or individuals, such as Equality, for they think they are much more educated and superior than a street cleaner. The Council of Scholars and the rest of the society as well seem to stay unenlightened, and have no reason to try looking at innovative ideas in a different perspective, one where new ideas and creativity are welcomed.
Chapter 4: What name has Liberty given to Equality? Do you think that the name is appropriate? Why or why not?
As Equality admits that he has given a name to Liberty, she also admits as well the name she created for Equality, “They looked straight into our eyes and they held their head high and they answered: The Unconquered.” (Pg. 55-56) I think this name is very appropriate to the context of this story in many ways. When looking up the word Unconquered, it is the opposite of conquered which can mean to control or overcome. Throughout the story, it is shown many times over and over how Equality seems to not listen to many rules/laws, and feels no reason to do so over time. It seems as if the council can not control Equality, and have never been successful to coming any closer to control. Some synonyms for conquer have many relations to war, like vanquish, overpower, overthrow, etc. Is this name a clue on how Equality might try overthrowing the corrupt council/government, and try restarting the society to a similar society we have today? I think this can definitely be a possibility because Equality can’t seem to go along with the rules no matter what he tries, and some rule breakers in our world’s past have always been influential leaders later in life.
Chapter 5: What is the World Council of Scholars and why is it significant?
The World Council of Scholars is an educated group of people that go around all the cities implementing and finding out new ideas and inventions, such as the candle that was found a long time ago. It seems that Equality is in awe of the World Council of Scholars, for he says, “It is a great Council, to which the wisest of all lands are elected, and it meets once a year in the different Cities of the earth…. We shall confess everything to them. They will see, understand, and forgive.” (Pg. 60-61) In this passage, Equality seems to still think that the Council of Scholars would understand their gift and praise him, even though everyone else in society would think he was breaking all laws/rules in making this invention, and knowing to much. The World Council of Scholars are significant because they are the only group of people that can pass new ideas/inventions to the Council of Vocations, which can be assumed is the final decision maker in all of the world. They also seem to have the power to give people the chance to join the Home of the Scholars, which Equality rightfully thinks he deserves that spot.
Jayden Cho
Delete10/14/18
CONTINUED
I think that the World Council of Scholars will not like the Equality’s invention not because it breaks many laws, but because of the fact that Equality knows too much information. Information and education is prized in this society, and to think that a “Street cleaner” is smarter than the Scholars would surely bring many questions to all the brothers and sisters alike.
Chapter 6: Why was he able to escape from the Palace, and why was it suddenly necessary to escape?
Equality was able to escape the Palace of Corrective Detention for their were no guards and the locks were old enough to break through. Equality mentions that there is no reason for guards, “For men have never defied the Councils so far as to escape from whatever place they were ordered to.” (Pg. 67) This passage shows that no one has ever done so much as to be placed in this Palace, and to ever think about escape. Equality thinks during the whipping “The lash whistled again. We wondered who was sprinkling burning coal dust upon the floor, for we saw drops of red twinkling on the stones around us.” (Pg. 65) This is just a theory but I feel like from this passage Equality and the whole society has never experienced/taught the word blood, and have never needed to know. Even if this is false, the whole society has a very low/zero crime rate, and there is no need to do crime for everyone is unenlightened. It was necessary for Equality to escape because it was the day before the World Council of Scholars were to meet in the city, and he felt like his invention was more important than his safety. He thought that once he presented the invention, they would all understand and praise him of his innovative idea, and therefore he would be prized the seat for the home of the Scholars.
Lucas Kaufman
DeleteIn your response to the Part III question, about why the Scholars are blind, you mentioned that the rules the Scholars come up with are passed by the people and that there is an element of democracy to the society in this way. I find this pretty ironic, since everyone has the exact same opinions and the whole point of democracy is the different opinions, so the collectivism of the society really defeats the purpose of a democracy.
Ch III. Why does Equality think that the Council of Scholars is blind?
ReplyDeleteEquality has discovered a power he thinks has been hidden away from him. In the book it reads, “The Council of Scholars has said that we all know the things which are not known by all do not exist. “ (pg. 52) What Equality could be thinking from this is the council knows things but is not letting the people in on it. If there is something Equality and/or his brothers figure out or know that the Council doesn’t know it is wrong. Such as if Equality exceeds the average accademic knowledge of the council, it is considered wrong and unreal because even the smartest people/authoritative people consider it from the unmentionable times. Another way this could work is the Council does not want them to know about something, so they are teaching them not to share it so that others don’t get ahead as well. There is a smart saying “Education is key to unlock the golden door of freedom”- George Washington Carver. So Equality is seeing this as the council not wanting to advance and not seeing all the things that are yet to be discovered. When in reality I think the council is prohibiting them from advancing. Equality doesn't know what the Council knows. He is probably thinking “if I can figure this out how blind does the council have to be to not have already figured it out?”
Ch. IV. What is Liberty's Life Mandate?
The word mandate means ‘an official order or commission to do something.’ I think in the book's case Liberty’s mandate or instructions, are to work in the field and not socialize with the males. The beginning of the chapter starts off by saying, “and the dust from the fields lay still without breath, and the dust of the road was white in the glow. So the women of the field were weary, and they tarried over their work.” (pg. 55)The women in the fields were having a hard time working with the weather. The use of the word tarried could mean a few things, I have two ideas as to why the author used it. One, they are “tarry” because they want to be rewarded for the work they are doing. Or two, Liberty is “tarrying” so she can see Equality, but the other women she is with don’t know that. Liberty is to work in the field until she is eligible for the place of mating.
Ch. V. Why does Equality want, for the first time, to know what he looks like?
Equality wants to know what he looks like because he is used to seeing other men and what they look like, but now that he has done something they have not done he wants to see himself, to see how he is set apart. He propably feels different on the inside and he is wondering if he is different on the outside. He feels so amazing.- You know the feeling everyone has when they have accomplished something they think was hard or something you know no one has done.- The chapter ends with, “for a reason we cannot fathom, we wish it were possible to us to know the likeness of our own person.” (pg. 62) He knows he is no allowed to see himself, and he does not question the rule but he does wish in an unselfish way that he could.
Ch. VI Why did Equality not try to escape earlier?
Equality was taken to the Palace of Corrective Detention because he did not tell the Council of the Homes where he was when he was late. In the earlier chapters he relizes he needs to show his creation to the World Council of Scholars so he can finally be recognized. I think he feels that he has been doing a job that he is overqualified for and wants to do something that is more challenging. He ends up staying in a cell and counts the days that go by. He probably didn’t want to escape sooner because he didn’t want any heat on him. Another thing is he might not have figured out sooner that, “the locks are old on the doors and there are no guards, for men have never defied the Councils so far as to escape…” (pg. 67) Towards the end of the chapter, he was writing about how he was excited and relieved about when he walks to the World Council of Scholars and shows them his discovery.
Why does Equality think that the Council of Scholars are blind?
ReplyDeleteEquality thinks that the Council of Scholars are blind because the council doesn't see the secrets of the Earth and they think all the things known about Earth are known to all. ““No one can possess greater wisdom than the many Scholars who are elected...Yet we can. Chapter Questions
What Has Equality Discovered and what has he learned from it?
Equality made a new “discovery” of Electricity, and he has figured this out on his own and no one else knows. He made this discovery when he was cutting open a frog and the metal from his knife had a reaction with the wire the frog was hanging from. He tested this by putting a piece of copper, and a piece of zinc into a jar of brine then touched a wire to them and saw the sarks that were being made. He made many experiment with his new discovery has learned that the thing that draws the lightning from the sky during thunderstorms was metal, by putting a long rod outside and watching it get struck many times. He also learned about wires that had very thin piece’s of copper inside them to conduct electricity.
2. What Name has Liberty Given Equality? Why?
The name that Liberty has given Equality is “Unconquerer” because she loves him and believes that he has honor and pride. She knows that he is different from the others as well as he knows that she is as well. They have both given each other names because of their feelings for each other and their ambition to be with one another. They know that speaking and giving each other names is forbidden but the o it anyways because the enjoy their company with themselves.
3. Why does Equlity feel the need togaurd his tunnel?
Quality feels the need to guard his tunnel not just because of his discovery, but also because of his privacy and “alone time”. The tunnel is his only escape from reality and he is able to leave when he gets the chance to go and make “discoveries” of to go and write about his past experiences. Since he made his discovery of light and electricity, he has felt the need to protect it for regular people would not know what they saw and try to get rid of it. He wants to keep it safe until the world council of head scholars is able to see his creation. He wants to show them because he feels that they are the only people that will be able to understand. He also may not want it to fall into the wrong hands for whoever knows of this secret has a great opportunity to be able to turn it against someone.

1. Equality thinks the Council of Scholars is blind because they did not or chose not to see Equality’s new invention. The Council of Scholars is supposed to be the smartest people in the world. So Equality thinks that they must be blind if they could not see electricity. He thinks they have to be blind because they did not see electricity.
2. Equality has given the name “The golden one” because to him she is better than all the other girls. Gold is the best symbolic element ( you win a competition you get a gold medal.) I think it’s his own way of saying that she is special to him. “They held the water to our lips.” I think this is a way that liberty is showing affection towards Equality. I don’t think they know how to kiss or hug because it was not taught to them. At a very young age we are taught how to hug the people in our life we love. In the book they are taught that it's bad to show affection so I don't think they taught them how to hug and kiss.
3. Equality wants to show the light to the council of the Scholars. He wants to show the world that he found light that does not come from fire. Equality said that after he brings his great gift to the world council of scholars he will go to the council of Vocations and will be assigned to the home of the Scholars. All he wants to do is discover new things. That's why he wants to go to the house of the scholars.
4. In order to get to the tunnel without anybody knowing Equality has to leave the play tent and go to the tunnel. He just had to be back before the play was done. He had an hourglass he just had to leave the tunnel before the play was down. He lost track of time “ When we remembered it, the sand had run out.” when he was Questioned by the council of houses he said “I will tell you nothing.” He was sent to be lashed until he talked.

ReplyDeleteCh IV What name has Equality given to Liberty? Why?
Equality has given Liberty the name "Golden One". I think that he gave this name to her because she makes him happy and her hair is the color of gold. He also might've given her this name because she makes him feel "golden" inside.
